2013 Something Sunday 12: Beach Bag

This week I finally got around to making a bag that has been on my "to make" list for over 4 months. I saw this tutorial, and it gave me the kick in the butt inspiration I needed to get sewing (sometimes Pintrest really does help me get things done)!

It ended up being much bigger then I expected. I was hoping to make a laptop sized tote bag, and instead I ended up with a large beach bag. (I should have known given the dimensions, but I just couldn't envision the volume it would hold). I'm still considering altering it to be slightly smaller, but knowing me, it will stay as it is!

I added little velcro pieces onto the sides of the bag, as a way to try and make the bag smaller without actually unpicking or re-sewing anything. It does kind of work, but I probably should have used white velcro.

The bag has a pocket on one of the outer sides, along with two inner pockets. It also has a hard base to help it keep its shape. I used cardboard for the base, but I would recommend using strong interfacing on the lining and the outer fabric, I think interfacing would work without adding so much rigidity to the bag.

And to give you a better idea of the size, here a is a quick mirror picture of me with the bag. See.... it's pretty big!
